Extra! Extra! Headliners Festival 2009 Adds Doves as erm.. Headliners!
Posted: 3rd August 2009
London free paper 'The London Paper' and event monarchs 'The Mean Fiddler' have joined forces to present "Headliners", a new London music festival designed to highlight several venues around the Capital over the course of 2 days, featuring some pretty impressive names to the bargain. Venues confirmed so far include the 100 Club, The Borderline, The Fly and branches of Fopp and HMV as well as up to 20 further locations.
So, who plays where and when? This will be announced nearer the time.
What I can tell you is that Doves, Magistrates, Biffy Clyro and A Flock Of Seagulls have been added to the already expansive bill that includes Magic Numbers, Gabriella Cilmi, VV Brown, Just Jack, Ben Howard and Sophie Ellis-Bextor with many more to come.
Signing up the Doves is a real coup (no pun intended) - quite how the excellent recently released album, "Kingdom Of Rust", failed to make the Mercury Prize shortlist is beyond me but you can at least make the lads feel much better by giving them a warm London welcome, even during the traditionally wet mid-September period that this festival occupies.
A Flock Of Seagulls were a frequent sight on Top Of The Pops with hits like "Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)", "The More You Live" and the classic "I Ran" - the latter embedded itself in many gamers heads by being featured in Grand Theft Auto's radio stations. There was something ironic about blasting the cops at close range and then legging it with this song blaring in the background, especially when the SWAT helicopter cut you down with a well-aimed laser-sighted rifle shot....I digress, AFOS should be quite a pull.
Biffy Clyro are always loud and proud so if power-metal is your chosen musical leaning then they should have you doing the snail with glee. Magistrates have been widely tipped to take electro-rock to the next level so keep an eye out for their date and venue.
Tickets are available online now at £30 for 2 days or £17.50 for each 1-day ticket. You are then required to collect a special wristband from designated locations with your ticket in order to gain access to the gigs! Watch this space for further updates!
