Sutra - Monks from the Shaolin Temple in London from Tues 30th June 2009

Posted: 14 years ago

Having blown audiences away last year (with their performances, not guns) the group collectively known as Sutra are returning to Saddlers Wells in London for a five show stint beginning June 30th and ending July 4th. Master choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has teamed up once more with the Turner Prize-winning sculptor/ artist Antony Gormley for a concept piece formed around 21 wooden boxes that tell an epic story set to the fantastic music of Polish composer Szymon Brzoska which is set to be performed live in tandem with the unfolding action. Performing the show are 17 monks from China's Shaolin Temple, so it promises to be an authentic take on their traditions as well as basic philosophies and faith. Oh and I almost forgot, there's some Kung Fu as well. Each show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available priced £10-£35. Not bad for a combo of education, concept art and Martial Arts.
