Next Tuesday, the first of the Island Records gigs takes place at Shepherds Bush Empire, with a stellar cast set to appear.

"Island Life" is a celebration of influential label Island records' 50th anniversary, with six concerts taking place every night from Tuesday 26th May 2009. With the name 'Island Life', it only makes sense that Grace Jones should appear, and she now will at the opening concert featuring reggae legends Sly and Robbie and the Compass Point allstars. Also joining the line-up are British reggae stalwarts Aswad and Bob Marley's former backing band the I-Threes, featuring Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Erica Newell. Completing the line-up - and making it a bit more contemporary are Island's VV Brown and Tinchy Stryder.

Tickets for the Tuesday are still available, costing £27.50 - £35 + booking.

Also still available are the Wednesday show, featuring The Fratellis, Steel Pulse and Bombay Bicycle Club and the last few for Saturday featuring Keane, Tom Tom Club and Ladyhawke - also costing £27.50 - £35 + booking. Tickets for the other dates have long since sold-out: Cat Stevens and Baaba Maal (Thurs), Paul Weller, Spooky Tooth, and Ernest Ranglin (Fri) and Amy Winehouse, Toots & The Maytals and I Blame Coco for the last show on Sunday 31st.

The "Island Life" gigs support the charities: Amnesty International and Jamaican charity The Oracabessa Foundation.
