Madame de Sade - the Not-So-Merry Wives of the Marquis Reveal all in the West End

Posted: 15 years ago

Now it isn't often you associate English roses with sleaze, bloodlust and sinful naughtiness of a sadistic nature...step forward the bad trio of Dench, Barber and Pike - stay behind for detention girls! More seriously, the Wyndham Theatre hosts all this shameful abandon for several weeks from March 17th to May 23rd and promises to be a beautifully acted performance judging by the cast.

Madame De Sade tells the story of decadent Paris and the even more decadent relationships of 6 women with the perverse and controversial figure of sexual gratification, the Marquis De Sade. Written by the celebrated Japanese playwright Yukio Mishima (himself the subject of a Paul Schrader / Coppola film in 1985, scored by Philip Glass - a film as controversial as this play). Judi Dench, Frances Barber and Rosamund Pike represent the creative Donmar Warehouse production company and will reveal just how they have been affected by De Sade's treatment of them during his more 'adventurous' years with them...it's a tell-all tale with no holds barred and promises to be a very special night of intense loyalty and debauchery, told by his women as he awaits his fate in the Bastille.

Tickets are available now from £25 upwards.
