Single Review

Silenced by the Night is the first single from the forthcoming album 'Strangeland', the second to feature the band as a four-piece, with bass added as of 2008. Every time I see the title, I can't help but think of Springsteen's 'Blinded by the Light' - similar name and same number of syllables. Happily (for me), it sounds nothing like that particular song. What is does sound very like though, is Keane. And pre-Perfect Symmetry Keane at that.

The song has a simple melody, but, typical of Keane, is a well-constructed 3 minutes and 16 seconds of pop with a catchy chorus and really rather nice sung middle eight containing the phrase 'you and I, we're gonna rise again', capable of raising a goose bump or two - especially when wacthing on the accompanying slick video (which you can view on their VEVO channel, here: youtube.com/user/KeaneVEVO).

Ultimately, this would not be top of the Keane pops, but is a nice introduction to the delights the album (hopefully) contains.
