Single Review

When I first saw the title of this I thought for one terrible minute that "One of Britain's greatest bands" (The Sunday Times) had decided to cover Yes' 1984 pop-tastic A Cappella minor hit (which secretly I love) - but they hadn't. I have to confess that, apart from a divine version of John Martyn's Fairy Tale Lullaby on the recent tribute album to the great man, BBC have rather passed me by. I saw them do a rather lacklustre performance at Glastonbury a few years back and decided it 'leave it' at that.

Based on the evidence of this track it's been my loss. Beginning with a nagging tick-tock rhythm and a New Order-esq bass line that would make Peter Hook proud this never really explodes into life, but has a hypnotically delivered chorus and an impassioned vocal - Coldplay without the pretentious tedium.

I'm off to have a listen to more of their stuff and possibly Yes on You Tube.
