Black Out The Sun - Darren Hayes Single Review

Single Review
'Black Out The Sun', the new single from the voice of Aussie pop duo Savage Garden, is a superbly catchy, well-produced string-laden pop track. With its' soaring melody, the track perfectly showcases the full range of Hayes' distinctive vocals, complete with perfectly controlled falsetto and effortless powerful vibrato.
Perhaps as mainstream pop as you'd expect from Darren Hayes, the track's introduction sounds the same determined electronic stabs of 'Paparazzi' which instantly spells its ambition. Then, with an underpinning, heart beating thud slightly reminiscent of Rihanna's heart wrenching ballad 'Russian Roulette', this single continues to grow into a fine and atmospheric pop ballad with a slightly darker, moodier edge to Hayes' previous romantic pop song offerings.
'Black Out The Sun' is taken from Hayes' forthcoming fourth solo album entitled 'Secret Codes and Battleships' and encompasses something of a more ambitious sound that's refreshing amongst a blur of many bland contemporaries.
