Album Review

BettySoo and Doug Cox have collaborated on this unlikely yet altogether charming set of tracks. 'Across The Borderline' is essentially an album of covers. Amongst the set is 'Be Careful There's a Baby in the House' by Loudon Wainwright III, Blaze Folly's 'Big Cheeseburgers and Good French Fries' and 'You Don't Need' by Jane Siberry. My favourite though is the opener 'Lie to Me' by Jeff Talmadge. Class.

The two met whilst teaching at an Acoustic Alaska Guitar Camp. Their locations and very different musical backgrounds and worlds didn't stop their musical friendship blossoming and although they live over 2000 miles apart they have produced a collection of all round decent, good songs from various favourite artists. Not all household names, but I feel that was partially the point they are trying to make.

The genre is typically folk with both aptly playing acoustic guitars and harmonising lyrically really well. Doug Cox also plays the Dobro, a pedal steel kind of guitar which is brilliantly played on the track 'BoxCars'. Truly mesmerising.

It's a grower and the kind of album you stick on to ease you out of the working day with a nice glass off red. Happy days.
