Off Our Heads - Daystar Single Review
Single Review
Manchester's slick and smooth indie-pop lovehearts, Daystar, hit up again with their second single release, 'Off Our Heads'. Still retaining their indelible love of, and influential markings of, the 60s, this is like watching 'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning' on ecstasy: northern grit overlaid with a catchy pop infusion of melodious guitar and the sweetly, somewhat cynical lyrics of vocalist and writer, Simon Monaghan.
Daystar seen to have cornered the market in turning out infectiously rhythmic tunes, whilst not losing their grip on the realities of life; a band who seems to prefer a stance that relies more on their musical and lyrical ability than the posturing and brashness that a number of their contemporaries display. On 'Off Our Heads' we get an evocation of regret over 'lost love' and the day-to-day plod of urban reality - well, that's what the blurb sort of says anyway, but don't get too nervy as it is, fundamentally, a well turned-out and upbeat little number that you can easily hum and tap your foot along to.
A good-looking, sharply suited bunch of lads who have built up a strong following already on the Manchester scene, with the right push Daystar could be the band to get us all, 'off our heads'.
