Single Review

Over the past year thanks to performing at various festivals, which included officially opening SXSW 2010 at the Delegates Welcome Dinner, Polly Mackey & The Pleasure Principle have found themselves being tagged as the next big thing.

Releasing their debut single 'Higher' via The Playground Records, it is easy to hear why. With bold vocals and a Make It Break It song-writing award under her belt, Polly Mackey reminds me of a young PJ Harvey. With the addition of her merry men (Tom Hassall on guitar, Paul Bates on bass, Adam Valentine on Drums), The Pleasure Principle (named after Gary Newman's record and Sigmund Freud's philosophical theory) make for an excellent band of huge guitar hooks, power-pop choruses and rat-a-tat beats. Along with fellow Welsh indie rockers The Joy Formidable, Polly Mackey & The Pleasure Principle have a sound that is about to be fully appreciated. Keep your ears open.
