Yeah, the acoustic touches are accentuated and the vice like percussion grip of the past has been loosened, but essentially the bemusement, spirited and dusky touch of Alice in Chains of old, still lingers like a spirit. In latest single 'Your Decision' from Grunge's understated old sons, it's plain to see that Jerry Cantrell's thoughtful solo material has stood him in good stead, to help continue to take Alice In Chains forward.
Although, some might argue that the achingly delivered, sombre vocals and lyrical longing mean that they are still looking back;
It's your decision, you feed the fire that burned us all.
Then you lied, to feel the pain that spurs you on, black inside.
Whether or not you see this song and these lines as being about Layne Staley? The signs are still obviously there to suggest that Alice In Chains are ready to move onwards and upwards.
