Single Review

At 16 years old it is hard to imagine that there is a life beyond drinking Lambrini and smoking on the park benches, but for Charlie XCX life goes way beyond that. Following up from her debut single '!Franchesckaar!', 'Emmeline/ Art Bitch' is a mix of bouncing baselines, sharp vocals and raw edge. 'Emmeline' is full of chaotic rhythms and aggressive tones, whilst 'Art Bitch' is host to a more mellow sound, yet the grimy baseline still lurks in the background and both songs showcase the vocal talent of Charli XCX brilliantly. I hidden gem within the CD has to be the 'Lillica Libertine remix' of 'Emmelline'. This remix takes a song that is designed for a adolescent teenagers bedroom and takes it the dance floor of a club, with its perfect mix of grizzly beats and funky house style.

This music has the attitude, boldness and creativity, that only comes with youth. She may have been compared to both Lily Allen and Kate Nash, but Charli XCX defiantly has a more unique and distinct sound than they could ever wish to conjure up.
