Album Review

The former winner of television show "Pop Idol" has shown that reality show winners can become successes. Whilst many so called reality stars have sunk without a trace, Will Young released his fourth studio album on Monday.

Since rising to national prominence after defeating Gareth Gates to be crowned "Pop Idol" in 2002, Will Young has attained numerous number one hits as well as releasing three multi-platinum albums, appearing both in a Hollywood movie and on stage and has been voted the UK's favourite artist of all time for two consecutive years. His newly released album entitled "Let It Go" contains his recent single "Changes."

However has his time in the spotlight come to a close? The promoted track "Changes" entered the charts at number 10 then subsequently dropped hence becoming his lowest charting single for a debut single.

If "Changes" can't succeed as a single then unfortunately there is not much hope for the remainder of the album. Positioned as the first track, the album kicks off with a familiar sound. After a couple more catchy tunes, the album quickly descends into nothingness. Seemingly the latter songs appear to either be repeats off previous albums, or just repetitions from the very same disk. The majority of the album is far from outstanding, though remains pleasant and easy listening.

The album therefore doesn't appear to contain as many hits as his previous albums did, such as "Leave Right Now" and "Your Game." However the album should still please a "Will Young fan" who in the end still gets to listen to some melodic tracks sung by the charming performer. For others though, the album is unlikely to make history and despite promising to be his most adventurous yet remains miserably timid.

Charming and comfortable though nothing new or special.
