Cibelle Live Review @ Buffalo Bars (London)

Live Review
Having listened to the previews of the self-styled Brazilian songstress (via way of Dalston East London now) I was very excited by the prospect of a fine performance. Currently touring the UK I managed to hear her near the start of her run in a rather cramped and hot Buffalo Bar in Islington.
Performing to a packed crowd she stared with the unusual choice of "underneath the mango tree" which showed off her natural cheekiness and delicate tones and put a smile on my face from the start. This was followed by her new single "white hair" which although is not my favourate track of hers seemed to delight the mixed crowed of student, lost shoreditchers and trendy media crowd. Another track of note and a favorite of mine is Green Grass is superbly executed and hopefully on her next albulm.
To describe her voice and performance style it would be somewhere between Nina Simone and Bjork with some of her work sounding from the deep south and others confusingly from another planet. Her work I am sure will develop through time and I am convinced she is a person to watch out for over the next few years as Ms Winehouse and others fall from favour and people want something more original.
I would encourage all to check her out at her myspace page www.myspace.com/cibelleblackbird, check out where your nearest show is and pay a bargain of an entry fee for a top notch act.
