EP Review

Satellite-state's debut E.P is a beautiful mix of gentle melodies which instantly draws the comparison to Snow Patrol. The four track E.P features One Small Step, an addictive number filled with soft instrumentals throughout. The repetition of the lyrics

"I don't regret, a single thing I said" linger in your mind, a good indication of the bands song writing ability. Lights Out opens with a long winded piano and vocal combination, before kicking in with drums, bass and guitar which combine superbly with the simplistic keyboard work. The chorus sees vocalist Gary Nicks retain his mellow voice, although the louder drums and bass help make the song, offering a little variation where the vocals and guitar sometimes lack.

The other two songs Plans & Sometimes/Always follow a similar pattern to One Small Step & Lights Out. They both feature the fruitful combination of light guitar and gentle vocals, proving a winning combination and resulting in an easy to listen E.P. Despite the bands nicely composed songs, they're going to need something with more variation should they make an album. With a constant stream of soft music, it can grow tedious rather quickly. Having said that, they've made four good songs and a nice little E.P here. I'd gladly recommend to fans of Snow Patrol, Keane and general indie fans. If a full album is on the horizon for Satellite State, I think they'll make their mark in the mainstream limelight.
