Metronomy's latest album 'Nights Out' is conclusive evidence that the second album doesn't have to be an albatross eerily circling in the sky, ready to swoop on any band in its path. Much more vocal-led than their debut, Metronomy have worked together to produce an album full of individuality, deserving of merit.

Better known for their experimental live shows, Metronomy here prove that their recorded sound is just as intriguing. Ready built singles 'My Heart Rate Rapid' and 'Radio Ladio' feature the vast array of synths that is becoming their signature sound, with the former building up into one of the most infectious tunes on the album.

The vocal-led 'Heartbreaker', shows the band is not just about the instruments; they can hold their own in the singing stakes too. The track's production is testament to the fact that although there's an element of melancholy to the lyrics, you can't resist the urge to move your limbs - even if it's just the shoulders.

It's as if everything Metronomy have been working towards has fallen into place with this album; they see themselves as a unit and are performing like a band who believe in each other. It's difficult to box off the band's genre; it would be too easy to say they are all about the electronica, but scratch the surface and both funk and pop influences will shine through.

Who knows how an experimental album such as this can make you sing and dance like never before, but it's something to be embraced. Metronomy let you know that they won't conform, but that they will bring continuous high quality sounds to the table. Keep those sounds coming, please.
