Lose My Cool - Jeremy Warmsley Single Review

Single Review
Songwriter Warmsley attracted interest with his debut album "The Art Of Fiction" and his live performances with Beirut, The Shins, Daniel Johnston and Regina Spektor but little sales. The new album, due in August, summons the production skills of Eno collaborator Markus Dravs who is fresh from his recent work with Arcade Fire and Coldplay. So, its all set up - or is it? Warmsley may well have incredible writing skills and an ear for a catchy tune but it doesn't show here I'm afraid. Clunky syn-drums usher in a strangely discordant song that stops and starts its way through an uninspiring landscape of banal lyrics and flat chorus. Jeremy rescues it all with a good old middle eight that, well, comes to a sudden halt. It's almost as though he stopped realizing he had peaked.
I'm keen to hear the album but this song hasn't lit my match I'm afraid.
