The Other Side - Pendulum Single Review

Single Review
Australia's Pendulum third release from their second album is 'The Other Side', a dance enthused song featuring a more commercial sound than their previous singles 'Blood Sugar' and 'Axle Grinder' from the bands first album.
The song has everything you would expect from Pendulum. It's filled with long synthesiser solos and has a dance floor feel throughout the song. It bares more commercial appeal on the radio edited version though, ridding itself of the tediously long introduction and diving straight into the heart of the song. As well as the original and radio mixes, the single also includes a VIP and Dubstep mixes which is a nice addition and shows real value for money. Despite all the remixes and radio edits, the song honestly isn't that good. It's a rather dull track that fails to repeat the success of previous single and Kerrang award nominated 'Propane Nightmares'. The different mixes expose the songs uninspiring and lacklustre lyrics, whilst The Other Side draws Pendulum further away from the rock genre in which they claim to be part of. To put it bluntly, it's a dance floor song that wouldn't be gaining recognition if any other band had released it.
Pendulum's new release is disappointing although the inclusion of different remixes is a treat, especially with the lost long B-side tracks vanishing from current singles. Their song is a disappointment considering the success of 'Propane Nightmares'. Hopefully just an off day for the band.
