Single Review
Bonham's musical career has seen her pen three albums over the course of the last twenty three years. Not much of a return for loyal fans of her blend of Chicago styles blues/ rock 'n roll mix who more than likely saw her first album released on vinyl than any other format, but this latest rally has certainly been worth the wait. With a family history deeply rooted in hard rock and heavy metal, sister to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and aunt to Jason Bonham of US rock band Foreigner, her credentials are certainly credible.
'Grace', taken from Bonham's recently released third album 'Duchess', pitches up as the album's opener. As an album that is set to be her first US release tensions could not be running at any greater height for the seasoned professional as first impressions here will certainly count. Not disappointing in the slightest, proceedings ignite from the steely strings of Peter Bullick's guitar supported by the metronomic, unshakable drumming of former Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley who's experience and professionalism add to the tracks gravitas. Powerful, earthy and soulful, just three words that begin to describe the vocals emitted from a women once under the tutelage of Zeppelin front man Robert Plant, who in many respect moulded her into the woman she is today. Cleverly simple lyrics, a sweet melody and a catchy chorus leave listeners on a high and yearning for more, the slightest chance of meeting delectable subject matter Grace wouldn't go a miss either, whoever she may be ?
