Album Review

It seems that Andy Dobson has been quietly going about his ambient business without much acclaim for the last 10 years or so which is a shame because this collection is a confident set of skittering electronica flavoured with classical and cinematic flavours begging to be played wherever there are plumpy cushions and sink-into sofas installed and a beach and cocktail bar settled nearby. So, if you plan to check out Cafe Del Mar this year then surely the DJ should spark up track number 6 on this CD, "Emberkreiss". It's one of those tracks - slow violin build up with the gentle sputterings of electronic no-beats and deep resonating bass to lull you into Ibiza oblivion... or if you live in Hounslow.... well, use your imagination.

Opener, "Ana Kata" , sets the scene with Samy Bishai providing the strings. It reminds me of William Orbit, Faceless and Ultramarine. It won't set the world alight but I like the feel of this album - it sounds like they love what they do. If we get a summer in August, this will be the ultimate soundtrack to crashing out on a beach in Cornwall or a park in London after far too many bottles of brainfuel.....
