Album Review
The CD ‘Postcards’ is instantly jolly and bouncy in a Razorlight / Fratellis / Ed Harcourt kind of way and mixed by Ben Hillier who I remember from Dubstar's first magical album. I'm not sure this captures the sparkle of this Aussie band's repertoire but it is not a bad album. Light breezy pop without many frills - it all sounds a bit late 80's to me which is not a bad thing just a little adrift of what I expected. There are dozens of bands like this from all corners of the globe who write lively little anthems yet nobody cares - which is a shame.
Check out the opening pair of songs, ‘Too Much To Do’ and ‘The Kiss Of Death’. Pop nicely sliced with a topping of sincerity and earnest frowns and smiles with decent production yet not setting the world alight - hell my collection is full of stuff like it. They have some live gigs coming up - T In The Park and the Camden Barfly plus a swathe of gigs back home. ‘Animals’ and ‘Up In The Air’ (sadly not the Husker Du classic) might well translate well in the live arena.
For now I will say - a good batch of songs and worth an ear if you like a bit of harmony and pomp in your bowl of pop.
