Album Review
Imagine Richard Hawley trying his hand at singing Peggy Lee songs with a slight wander over to the field marked 'Country Music'? This album contains all manner of lovely summery tunes that deserve a listen if nothing else especially the cracking ‘I Thought I Saw Your Face Today’ which ought to be on every radio station playlist right now with its whistley catchiness! The opener, ‘Sentimental Heart’ is also a beauty as is ‘Change Is Hard’ - well worth logging onto their myspace for.
It seems She & Him are only playing in their native USA where I am sure their brand of slightly retro country teardrop-rock will go down well (check ‘I Was Made For You’ - sheer Chiffons - and the covers, ‘You Really Got A Hold Me’ and ‘Sweet Darlin' - the former delivered like the 4AD band Tarnation).
’Black Hole’ is another strumalong that keeps the whole damn album drifting along without wandering into naff world... I reckon they would go down well over here...
Seriously - seek them out.
