Album Review
Disturbed’s latest release follows the commonly used “If it aint broke, don’t fix it” phrase. Fresh off their mediocre appearance at Download Festival, the band’s ‘Indestructible’ album is a solid metal album, if a tad tedious and repetitive.
The American nu-metals first single ‘Inside the Fire’ fails to offer anything fresh into the fix. The song is written about suicide, yet with vocals from David’s Draiman the band repeatedly fails to stamp anything distinctive on any songs. Inside the fire sounds remarkably similar to early work from the band such as ‘Prayer’, just based around a different theme.
Track seven ‘Enough’ is a decent enough track, based around dark forces. It’s slightly less frenetic than other tracks within the album, yet the band overplay their hand with the song as it goes round in a loop. Having said this, it is one of the more memorable songs from the album and the lyrics stick in your head unlike with other songs. ‘Deceiver’ is a ferociously uninteresting track, drawing further links between the band’s early work and their current catalogue.
‘The Night’ is the hottest track on the CD. Switching from Disturbed’s frantic style and over-used reliance of David Draiman, the song features a quality instrumental towards the back-end of the song, disrupting the balance of non-stop vocals and making the song sound dramatically better. The infectious chorus is wildly addictive, despite its odd lyrics.
In a world beyond controlling, are you going to deny the savior in front of your eyes? Stare into the night.
However in spite of ‘The Night’ offering a little variation and opener ‘Indestructible’ being filled with chunky guitar solos, it cannot shadow the fact that Disturbed’s album is rather dull and repetitive. The lack of backing vocals means that the sound becomes unbearably similar with every track, and the use of having a demo-esque voice in the back of some songs only highlights the need for additional vocalists. It’s solid, it has its moments, but it’s a little shabby and disappointing from the rockers.
