It’s clear from the moment ‘In Silico’ kicks off, that Pendulum are back with full force with this their second album which is actually their first release on a major label.

Now, you may have heard much of their genre hopping, ‘cross-over’ aspirations but to be fair, they are not the first band to delve into the relationship between drum ‘n bass and rock and I suspect that they will not be the last. So what’s the hype all about?

There is no doubt they have changed direction since their debut ‘Hold Your Colour’ which was a much dancier affair, and have introduced a fuzzy rock element but it’s hardly groundbreaking.

What is highly irritating is that the album has definite stand out tracks namely ‘Propane Nightmares’ and ‘Mutiny’ which, if the rest of the tracks where as good as, you would be reading an entirely different review. These two would no doubt fill the floor in any club but, here comes the irritating bit, the rest of the album is repetitive dirge that wouldn’t sound out of place in a boy racers souped up Corsa. Which is a shame, because it could have been sooo good and it seems it’s a case of too much knob twiddling. Any punch that the guitar sounds could have given, have been dumbed down leaving the listener wondering exactly what In SIlico wants to be as it meanders through styles in the vain hope something will stick

Unfortunately it just ends up coming across more like a copy of a poor mans Prodigy instead of any experimental band with potential.
