Cops n Robbers is the fourth single from The Hoosiers debut album 'The Trick to Life'. The band have had huge success in the last year with 'Worried About Ray' being nominated for the top five songs of the year, coming second only to Take That. The single features the Hoosiers now renowned style of 'Odd Pop' music, and has been noted for its similarities to The Cure's song 'The Lovecats'.
The song is typical of The Hoosiers, catchy music combined with basic lyrics and indie instrumentals that feature a twist which separates them from the rest of the genre. The introduction of trumpets to the song is a nice touch, whilst electro-pop keyboard work means Cops and Robbers differs from previous songs. The song borders on a pop song, lead singer Irwin Sparkes vocal work could quite easily be utilised in the genre. Yet, the band has carved out their own niche in an overcrowded indie genre and this song is an example of what they can do. Using trumpets in the track adds a new element to it making it irresistible addictive [Unlike Mark Ronson who is proudly systematically ruining the whole genre with a trumpet].
The song is a nice addition to The Hoosiers catalogue of singles and one of the better tracks of 'The Trick to Life'. The Hoosiers will never become a Blur or Razorlight, yet their new breed of indie has attracted a strong following and the band can only be destined for further success in the near future.
