Single Review
'Sky is over' is the latest single released from Serj Tankian's debut album 'Elect the Dead'. Serj has already produced two successful singles from his solo album, with 'Empty Walls' proving a massive hit, whilst 'Lie Lie Lie' perhaps didn't fare as well. As with his previous band 'System of a Down', Serj stays true to his political roots with 'Sky is over' being based around the end of civilisation. The song features soft piano with powerful drums, allowing Serj to display his vocal talents with being overpowered by instrumentals. Although the song is quite good, there are much better tracks available on 'Elect the Dead' making 'Sky is Over' a surprising choice. It seems a lot softer than the rest of the album and his previous work and shows Serj wasn't lying when he said "This initially started off being a classic based album", with 'Sky is Over' clearly being one of those tracks.
Serj Tankian's new single is defiantly worth a listen, the quiet instrumental work can allow a listener a chance to hear his vocals without being overpowered by heavy guitar or drums. It's quite catchy and grows on you almost instantly, perhaps due to the basic chorus. However, the track has been selected as a single for its simplicity, and there are simply better tracks available on his debut album. A track that is almost an introduction to Serj's work, divulge further into his music should you like this track.
