Single Review

Refreshingly rugged sing-alonger from Bahrain born and former Eton College educated folk – rocker Frank Turner. Since the demise of his former punk band Million Dead in 2005, Turner, who sports a beard (it is folk), has been doing rather well as a solo artist having toured the States and Europe. This high -spirited single has all the colours of exhilarating campfire punk. It starts with an acoustic trickle developing into an Irish style swinging romp, boosted by what sounds musical chums (or band) chipping -in on backups and obligatory violin touches. Collectively, except for the vocals, it sounds like The Pogues meet The Waterboys, on a roll. Bet it’s a crowd pleaser with fans, which are getting more each day.

The album Love Ire and Song is out Monday 31 March.

File under : Very promising, indeed.
