You Know Me Better - Roisin Murphy Single Review

Roisin Murphy
Single Review
Well, well, the Irish fashionista is definitely back with a fabulous single, 'You Know Me Better', off her sophomore 'Overpowered' album.
The single is a perfect concentrate of ultra bright synth pop and break beat, greatly reminiscent of Wham!'s 'Everything She Wants' and Madonna's 'Into The Groove' vs 'Dress You Up'. No, no, I'm not trippin': lend it a good ear- this will get even more flagrant on the instrumental version of this electro classic to be.
As well as displaying good music tastes, Lady Murphy deploys vocal exuberance, which claims affiliation with charismatic vocalists such a Grace Jones and Lisa Stansfield.
And underneath all the sonic artifice, lie beautifully simplistic lyrics about the complications of a friendship longing to walk into serious relationship territory:
How many years can we keep going on this way/Too afraid, too much at stake /Though I believe the friendship can survive/Maybe it won't if we do or we don't...
Let's make it clear: Roisin Murphy is reinforcing her status as the most eligible contender to the (aging) queen of pop's crown.
