Single Review
Rawness, rhythm and a creaking bluesy vocal linger continues to be the approach of Akron, Ohio’s sauntering pair of Dan Auerbach (vocals guitar) and Patrick Carney. Through this lead single to fifth album, Carney continues to lead the way with a thumping, cymbal quivering rhythm build providing a sturdy base for Auerbarch’s dusky, dirt riddled vocals and twining 70’s blues rock guitars.
Dan’s vocal echo mirrors the cries of someone walking The Green Mile, instilling a hint of vain desperation. Something that is imperative to achieve if the authentic blues spirit is to be recaptured. Many bands are grateful to achieve this in one song. The Black Keys have been doing it for five albums now!
