Something Good '08 - Utah Saints Single Review

Utah Saints
Single Review
After not hearing anything from Tim Garbutt and Jez Willis since the start of the millennia (unless you happen to do to the Sugar Beet Club in Leeds) they are bursting back onto the dance scene with a re-imagining of their ’92 classic something good. With Kate Bush’s vocal still to the fore this song still romps along and brings back all the memories of a long forgotten dance scene. On the Radio Edit it is a solid fun performance but anyone who is after something radically different will be disappointed, although to cheer themselves up they should watch the new video on You Tube.
On to the remixes, I really enjoyed the Van She Tech Mix bringing a metallic also spacey quality to the track. You can hear the ray guns firing enhancing the original tune and turning it into something special. This is something that cannot be said of the High Contract remix, the sped up vocals sounding like someone with the fast forward on the CD player grate me immensely and the inclusion of some pretty strings do not stop me from wanting to play Frisbee with the CD.
In brief the other remixes, the Ian Carey Remix is a fine example of electro dance, Prok & Fitch Remix is also fine but uninspiring and unoriginal. The Bart B More remix beeps along like a Atari games console with an echo effect but at least it’s a truly original challenging remix. The eSquire remix has a more muted vocal and delightful new synths and for in some parts has an effect that sounds like it is was taken from DeeLite’s ‘Groove Is In The Heart’, in all a sterling effort. Finally the Van She Instrumental, same as before but this time with no words who would have thought it, enjoyable stuff.
Overall this is a much welcome return from the boys from Harrogate, I look forward to the next installment.
