S.O.S. (Anything But Love) - Apocalyptica Single Review

Apocalyptica

Single Review

Apocalyptica have always carried a unique edge as a band. Formed in 1993, the band started out playing instrumental Metallica covers on cellos. They continued to do cover versions on all their next three albums, eventually adding drums. On their fifth studio album, they experimented with guest vocalists Ville Valo amongst others. Apocalyptica's latest album 'Worlds Collide' features guest vocals from Till Lindemann (Rammstein), Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer).

Apocalyptica's latest single 'S.O.S (Anything But Love)' features guest vocals from Italian single Cristina Scabbia, lead singer of Lacuna Coil who has also collaborated with Nightwish and Megadeth. The song is based around a traumatic relationship, with lyrics such as "So go on and fight me, Go on and scare me to death." being some of the key lyrics sung. The track is well worked, with powerful drums working well with Cristina's strong voice. The cellos become slightly tedious and repetitive as their importance isn't key in the track. 'S.O.S' proves to be a great follow-up to previous single 'I'm Not Jesus', and shows Apocalyptica are bordering mainstream success.
