The Hoosiers
Live Review
The Hoosiers have had an incredible last year. After achieving 3 chart singles as well as a brit award nomination, tonight they play the sold out octagon. The band play an elaborate set featuring skeleton trumpeters, massive balloons, frowning tv's and everything in between. Their breed of 'odd-pop' comes across brilliantly, with the lesser known tracks 'The Trick of Life' and Ccops And Robbers' whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Lead singer Irwin Sparkes charismatic approach proved popular with the crowd, however the lack of back catalogue meant they were reduced to playing support band JP Jones's song as an encore track. This still didn't deter them from playing a crowd pleasing set, ending with their breakthrough single 'Worried About Ray'.
The band also revealed a different side to their pop based music, churning out some quite formidable acoustic tracks as well as a much heavier song scheduled to appear on the next Hoosiers album. The Hoosiers are certainly not the biggest band in Britain but should they continue to play live with such enthusiasm, next years best live act could be a shock one.
