The Raid
Live Review
Heading down to another club fandando this time to see up and coming band ‘The Raid’, who are headlining the tonight’s line up down in Sunny Great Portland Street. I feel I need to give special mention to one of their support acts ‘Hold Fire’. They were instantly likeable with tracks that had the crowd literally singing by the end. This was their first London gig and I think they are one to watch.
Moving on to the main attraction ‘The Raid’, having only heard a few tracks from this band via the wonders of my space, I was not sure what I was going to make of the boys from Hemel Hempstead. Paul Taylor and the band took to the stage, all guitars and brooding menace, and go straight into their first track. I’m not sure about the confident, arrogant swagger of the lead. He doesn’t have the appeal of someone like Tom Meighan or Liam Gallagher to get away with it - just relax and engage with the crowd you will get a lot more followers. That said the band have great energy and really strangle their instruments giving a hard raw sound previous reviews of their work compare them to bands like Kasabian and the Who. I enjoyed every track while thinking that they can still refine their sound without losing their raw appeal and try to lose some of the more punky edges to their tunes.
The Raid have the feel of a band that just need to get their first album out of the way. There will be I’m sure a few gems on it from which they will be able to grow their fan-base and develop into a fine indie rock band. They’re not their yet but keep looking in a few years you may get a surprise.
