Single Review
When I first received this CD I didn’t know anything about this artist. According to the accompanying Biog “Jaymay is a precocious songwriter dealing with matters of the heart and part of the New York Anti Folk scene”. This usually means that the artist will be some sort of cross between a poor man’s Norah Jones and KT Tunstall for a few years back. So what’s the verdict? What I can say the music is simply brilliant, stripped down to a few string instruments it allows a warm tender vocal come through singing about love and life. She has an element in her voice that reminds me of Mazzy Star and I think has the commercial potential to go all the way satisfying a cynical indie audience like myself as well as the middle age Radio 2 listening brigade. She is one to watch in the next few years.
