Well, they sure don’t make them like this anymore, and isn’t it a shame.

And although modern forms of heavy metal don’t have the same impact on today’s music spectrum, ‘Iron Maiden: Live After Death’ is just such a perfect reminder of where the passion truly lies and how it must be done.

Of course, the exhilarating ‘Live after Death’ concert at Los Angeles’ Long Beach Arena was part of their mammoth 193-show 1985 World Slavery Tour – one of the biggest of all time – taking them all around the planet. No wonder they took a long break after its culmination!

Part one of this 2-disc set is a complete recording of the phenomenal spectacle at Long Beach, capturing the fanatic atmosphere, the high-octane performances, Bruce Dickinson’s charismatic crowd connection and the stunning Egyptian stadium lay-out and effects.

It obviously includes al the greatest hits from that period such as Powerslave, Number of the Beast, Hallowed be Thy Name, Run to The Hills and Sanctuary to name just five and each one is delivered with the fierce velocity which made this English band such worldwide legends.

The second disc includes extensive highlights of their breathtaking Rock In Rio concert attended by around 350,000 wildly passionate fans from South America while there is also an hour-long feature titled ‘The History of Iron Maiden’ and a compelling documentary of how they became the first major band to play in the Communist Eastern Bloc at the height of the Cold War. Unsurprisingly it’s called ‘Behind the Iron Curtain’ and includes some of their more memorable performances from that time. It may not be why you’d initially want this, but it’s still a fascinating extra.

Overall this package combines Iron Maiden’s powerful, hammering hard music, a great sense of excitement combined with drama and plenty of footage to get you rocking.

Maybe for those who attended the real thing it’s a case of “you just had to be there” to truly sample their magnitude but this is an opportunity to get a taste of the past and quite simply it’s awe-inspiring.
