Badly Drawn Boy

Single Review

Quite simply, this is trademark Badly Drawn Boy. It’s soothing, eloquent and also rather meandering.

But this comes as no surprise when you consider it’s a slightly reworked version from one of the stand out tracks from his 2006 album, Born in the UK.

However, in keeping with his melodic tendencies he’s doing what he does best and unsurprisingly it’s been chosen to feature in the 2008 British film, “Definitely Maybe”.

With the success of “About a Boy”, you have to wonder if Damon Gough will be typecast as a specialist for gentle romantic comedies from the UK and perhaps needs more of a cutting edge.

But no one can down the emotion and heart that goes into each of pieces of work even if his style can sometimes come across a bit too relaxed with a hint of ‘going through the motions’.

From another perspective you could argue ‘if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it’ and that’s one thing Badly Drawn Boy certainly is not - broken. Instead he’s the opposite and to describe him and this latest reworked track as timeless would be ironically fitting.
