Take That

Live Review

Being a regular attendee of live music, enjoying everyone from Wolfmother to Groove Armada, I was ridiculously excited to see my childhood heartthrobs, Take That, perform at the O2 this week.

I was dubious as to whether they could still cut it as the newly reformed ‘man band’ but I was quickly put in my place.

Gary, Mark, Jason and Howard gave two hours of solid performances to a crowd of around 20,000. The show started with a Las Vegas style ‘It only takes a minute’ which included almost naked dancers and pole dancing from Jason and Howard, and finished with the bands first number one Pray which they accompanied with an old school, boy band, dance routine.

They did old numbers - Back for good, new numbers - Shine and old numbers in a new style - Could it be magic. The fans were also treated to a second, smaller stage situated in the middle of the crowd which the boys got to by way of a bridge being lowered from the roof above the crowd.

It’s hard to choose a highlight of the evening because the whole show was amazing but, if pushed, my favourite number would be Could it be magic?. Different to the original we all know and love, they performed this track on the smaller stage with Gary playing a white grand piano while the others were rotated around him. Add to that a string quartet, girls floating over your head scattering confetti and a gaggle of dancers and it really was a magical experience.

I’m pleased to say after ten years of being away Take That haven’t lost their ability to make their fans, new and old, very happy. Nobody could have a bad word to say about the Beautiful World Tour.
