We'll Live And Die In These Towns - The Enemy Single Review

The Enemy
Single Review
It is difficult not to find yourself singing along to the anthemic title track off Coventry heroes, The Enemy's award-winning debut album. Of course this is largely due to the chorus being repeated six times and the climactic orchestra of violins reinforcing and dramaticising:
We'll live and die in these towns/Don't let it drag you down.
Despite the uplifting hopeful feel of the chorus, the young trio - who are known to sing about life in Coventry - present a very depressing and helpless image of a house where 'the toilets smell of desperation' with no food and no hot water, which in an age of British gas and social security seems excessively dark.
