Single Review

Seems like Sam Isaac likes to do things his way. His current prefered modus operandi is not to gig at the regular UK venues, but in people's living rooms. Novel, but not new. The idea has been all the rage Stateside for some years now, though he has supported acts like Scouting For Girls, Kate Walsh, amongst others. The twenty one year-old from Malvern west midlands, now London based, is clearly on a mission - to win people over. He's not a household name yet, though he's done sessions for Janice Long (Radio 2) and Huw Stephens (Radio 1), the Wireless, Glastonbury, Truck and Latitude festivals this year, which will raise his profile no end.

Sideways is an easy listening inoffensive pop ditty. It floats along with Isaac's sweet but characterless singing, not too disimilar to the JCB Song by Nizlopi. There's also a hint of early Coldplay. Its bound to get sufficient pre-Crimbo airplay, but it's not remarkable by any means. Time will tell if he's a major talent, and like one of his inspirations Bright Eyes ( Connor Oberst ) it took a long time. A Cinematic Low is a (slightly) better song, and should have been the A-side.
