'Shadow of the Day' isn't quite what you'd expect from Linkin Park, who have traditionally been associated with rap-infused nu-metal.
However times have changed and to keep afloat in this current musical age, they've now altered their style to become a more melodious rock band but also rather diluted as a result.
That said, there is plenty of meaning in this latest single, which is an emotional slow burner which eventually builds into a high octane rock ballad.
It ends up being rather inspiring and while some will argue it's being performed by a group who've seemingly ditched their principles, I think it can be refreshing to see a bold change of direction.
Quite often we accuse bands of producing songs so similar to their tried and tested formula, and now it is clear Linkin Park are trying to breakaway.
