The Checks

Single Review

Personally requested to tour alongside R.E.M. by Stipe himself, The Checks reputation amongst their more experienced contemporaries is significant and opinions, all positive, are well founded. Hailing from New Zealand, the land of fellow indie-rockers The Datsuns, the band having generated considerable buzz at home, travelled to the other side of the planet to launch their musical aspirations on the big stage and now see themselves releasing their latest single What You Heard.

Renowned for their highly charged, spine tingling style of blues-driven indie-rock this track is a large dose of the same that will leave you wanting seconds. Lead singer and band front man Ed Knowles screams the bands arrival with earthy, electrically charged vocals, like Mick Jagger meets Mark Bolan. Noisy guitars, crashing drums and driving bass lines all combine drawing sixties beat-pop and seventies glam-rock into a head on collision resulting in a sublime melodic anthem for the 00's. Overall, a refreshing sound which is grabbing the attentions of musical big wigs and the common man too.
