Single Review

It would seem that ripping the life out of old tracks, or 'reworking' them if you're looking at things in a more favourable light, is the flavour of the month. When you've been in the business for almost 15 years and sold several million albums there are only several lines of attack left that can be made to revive a career that has seen it's fair share of ups and downs.

Gabrielle, renowned for hits Dreams and Rise, has been out of the spot light for some time now but returns with a track festooned in soulful charm, working alongside some new faces but with the usual melancholic attributes of any Gabrielle track even though admittedly pilfered from one of the principal figures of the Mod Revival.

Why, taken from her forth coming album Always which has been a long time coming, breaks the mold to a degree seeing her paired up with aged indie-rocker Paul Weller. Built upon a Weller classic, Wild Wood taken from his album of the same name, Gabrielle stays true to her roots laying her usual rich tones upon the guest acoustical instrumentation provided by Weller himself. All in all a mediocre twist on a classic tale.
