Foals

Single Review

Charged by an explosive mix of techno, the indie-rock sound of band Foals sits in a quite unique position and could well be the best placed front runner in a gradually diversifying genre mixing the heaving percussive, synthetic sounds of techno with main stream indie-rock.

It's a cacophony of electronic instrumentation that erupts across the airwaves like no other. Compared by band member Yannis to the sound that insects might make, it sounds more like an electrified Morse code message that telegram operators on The Titanic might have frantically sent as sea water lapped around their ankles. Working the upper fret board sections of their guitars to destruction, Foals lead singer Yannis Philippakis yelps lyrics out with a determination that infuses the 80s new romantic era with the techno tracks of the 90s. For the Brighton based quintet Mathletics

and the comparative music that is being produced behind locked doors is a step away from the serious writing/ recording sessions that once ensued, now its all about having fun.
