Badly Drawn Boy

Single Review

As creative and original as Badly Drawn Boy has been in the past, his latest release ‘A Journey From A To B’ just comes across as a little tame and mediocre.

Sure, it’s chirpy enough and doesn’t do any harm but it just seems a weak attempt to secure a high-spot in the charts rather sticking to previous principles of eccentricity.

For me this track, which is taken from his most recent album “Born In The UK”, is just too much in his comfort zone. You get the impression he can rattle off gentle melodic songs like this one after another and it’s just too easy.

There appears to be no desire to stretch himself and produce something a little different and memorable – like he did in the past.

By trying to cover the ground of chart-topping male solo piano-playing artists like James Blunt and Damien Rice there’s a danger Damon Gough will take the edge off his own work of arts including The Hour of Bewilder beast and the About A Boy soundtrack.

But don’t get me wrong, ‘A Journey From A To B’ is not a bad song. In it’s own way it’s a good spirited track but you’re left wanting that little bit more.
