Sophia - Nerina Pallot Single Review

Single Review
When I received the press release stating that Sophia was to be the next single (the third one?) from Nerina Pallot’s album Fires, I was quite surprised. Given that it features just Nerina on vocals and piano, I thought it a bit sparse for a commercial release.
I needn’t have worried though, as with Mitchell Froom on production duty, it has been revamped with extra instrumentation and kit added to the song. I’m also pretty sure the vocals have been re-recorded as the delivery seems different in parts.
The lyrics are quite clever as the ‘Sophia’ in question is (pronounced ‘so-fy-ah’, not ‘so-fee-ah’) to whom the song is directed morphs into [it]‘s a fire’ in the chorus', a fire which cannot be put out.
Very nice single.
