Lovelight - Robbie Williams Single Review

Single Review
Robbie Williams songs that I like are a pretty rare thing, in fact I can think of just a few that I have liked: Angels and errm... well... this one. So, it’s fair to say I’m not a die-hard fan, then.
That said, it just so happens that I really like the music of UK nu-soul singer/ songwriter Lewis Taylor – who penned this song (it’s on his excellent Stoned – Part I album released a few years ago), so Mr Williams is now elevated in my opinion having such fine taste in music.
Musically, it’s very similar to the Lewis Taylor original, keeping the same funky vibe – even starting with a “gated” noise (“transformer”- style) rhythm, just lacking the guitar solo of the original. Vocally, the song sees Robbie singing in a slightly higher register than usual. It does strike me as a bit of a summer track, but should go down well in clubs in the winter as well.
The second track Mess You Up has a dance vibe to it, and has the same kind of vocal delivery as Rudebox - which either appeals to you, or doesn’t, and it doesn’t really do anything for me.
Back to Lovelight - I already liked the song, so as you’ve probably already gathered I like this version too.
