Single Review
Red Hot Chili Peppers are certainly one of the greatest bands to come out of America but their latest single Snow (Hey Ho) just seems to be a watered down recipe of what brought them so much success and adulation.
It’s one of the more gentle songs from their critically acclaimed album Stadium Arcadium, which has proved to be an epic hit across the world. But this track just makes you think where they would be now had they started their career with such a mellow approach.
Although it follows a similar formula to what’s gone before, there is just that lack of bite and what could have been truly memorable rocky chorus is simply too laid back and relaxing.
This is not to say there is no beauty about Snow (Hey oh), which starts off with a lovely rippling guitar rift while Anthony Kiedis’ distinctive vocals keeps to the calm yet relentless rhythm throughout. But you sense that if Simon Cowell was judging their performance he would say "you played it safe".
Unlike many Red Hot Chili Peppers’ songs, this is not one you want to listen to repetitively or you’ll probably drift off to sleep even though in essence they’ve executed what they set out to do very well.
Overall you can’t say there’s anything technically wrong with it but compared with classics of the past, it doesn’t have that spine tingling impact.
