DVD Review

It's a massive thumbs down for Will Young's first live DVD.As the pre-show clock count's down, you'd swear you were in for something spectacular. In fact,it's a big anti-climax,and no more than I expected. With a stage personality of a wet lettuce, sugar coated Will Young drags us through a painful 90 minutes plus of his Wembley gig from winter 2004.Early on he almost pleads with the audience to raise the atmosphere, hoping it would boost sales. When he gets under way,his pubescent grating voice may well appeal to the teen element, but after a couple of songs,it annoys to the point of distraction.Adopting the usual 'pap' tactics, the production boys wade in.There's the proverbial dance troupe, backing singers, big band and visual backdrops which fail to impress.Young's routines and moves are as naff as you can get:he struts his stuff like a big girl.

Technically, there's sharp editing from the multi-angled shots from the ever popular arena, which compensate for the gooey musical interpretations. He's a very nice boy,but with a show like this he'll never get the credibility he craves for.The amount of work necessary to improve his stage persona is probably beyond him.

Worst bit?His destruction of Stephen's Still's classic Love The One You're With.

Best bit?End of show!
