A springtime string and drum beat intro slowly caresses the mind before the yearning and reflective vocals of Mr Hudson, sprinkle streetwise wisdom upon you with clarity and authenticity for the title track. The winding nature of the piano laden accompaniment starts you off on a journey towards perspective, as each note is carefully placed to build up the weary but at ease mood. A live version of 'Brave The Cold' sees the outfit playing to their strengths with some orchestral soul, as the duel vocals complement each other and aids the stripped down, tingling positive vibe that is given off.
If you're going to perform some moody blues then the only way to do it is with poetic self pity, thunderous rain style atmospheric touches and a tingling laid back piano (you don't need a creaky guitar!). Most of all, you need soft and almost tranquil vocals to juxtapose the stormy lyrics:
I make a date for golf and you can bet your life it rains,
my flat-warming got started, but the bitch next door complained.
It seems I'll spend my whole life catching colds and missing trains;
everything happens to me.
These three varying and touching tracks are a refreshing advertisement for the range, emotion and atmosphere on the intriguing shelves of Mr Hudson & The Library.
