Going Underground along with Wasted Life by The Jam and Stiff Little Fingers Respectively, did more than define a generation they revived it with the feelings they evoked. They have also influenced so many bands that are around today, so are obviously still relevant. Therefore, the chance to hear both these songs on the same bill by the people who played them with such passion when they first came out, is an opportunity not to be missed.
The only surviving member of Ireland's answer to The Clash; Stiff Little Fingers' Jake Burns leads an intriguing acoustic based run through of classic songs like 'Alternative Ulster', Harp along with the poignant and as relevant as ever 'Tin Soldiers' featuring the lines:
"At the age of seventeen he was forced to chose,
at the age of 21 he's in catch 22... Tin Soldiers."
Bruce Foxton who was a valued member of The Jam is currently with Stiff Little Fingers and will be able to do songs from both bands justice. For those who think that Paul Weller virtually did everything for The Jam are off the mark. Not only did Bruce write songs such as 'News Of The World' and the quality victim of the rat race number ' Smithers Jones', but he also sang on them. The latter track, for modern music lovers has basically been revamped by none other than The Coral in their next single 'Bill McCai'.
The band is complemented by members of the ska two tone outfit The Selector,
Pauline Black and Nick Welsh who have an acoustic album out at the moment entitled Unplugged from The Rude Boy Generation. A night of variety, nostalgia and fun is install with music from three influential outfits on offer, now "That's Entertainment."
